This was the first major road concession contract
awarded in South Africa and the fore-runner of the
BOT (Build, Operate, Transfer) N3 and N4 Toll Roads
that were to follow. The Project was to design,
finance, construct, then maintain and hand back to
the client after twenty years. |

The N3 Toll Road |

Construction : 1999 - 2002
Maintenance : 2002 - 2032This was the third major road
concession contract awarded in South Africa. The Project was to
design, finance, construct, operate, maintain and hand back to the
client after thirty years. Murray & Roberts was a leading sponsor,
and remains a shareholder in the operation of the concession and
through its sister company ( Tolcon ), operates the toll collection
of the route. |

Mangaung Maximum Security Prison |

Construction : 2 April 2000 - 1 July 2001
Operation : 2001 - 2026
Murray & Roberts successfully concluded the concession agreement
for South Africa's first privately operated prison. This world-class
contract accommodates 2,928 maximum-security prisoners in the town
of Mangaung, Bloemfontein. The Project was to design, finance,
construct, operate and hand back to the client after twenty five
years. The prison infrastructure was completed in fifteen months,
and has successfully operated since commissioning. |

N4 Bakwena Platinum Highway |

Client : South African National Road Agency
Construction : 2001 - 2005
Operation and Maintenance : 2005 - 2035This is the most
recent major road concession awarded in South Africa. The Project
was to design, finance, construct, operate and hand back to the
client after thirty years. This Project is a classic example of
public – private sector co-operation and participation. Murray &
Roberts was a leading sponsor, and remains a shareholder in the
concession company and in the company responsible for the operations
and maintenance of the route. Infrastructure works commenced in
September 2001 and is scheduled for completion in 2005. For more

Gautrain Rapid Rail Link |

Client : Gauteng Provincial Government
Construction : September 2006 - 2011This is the new rail link
between Johannesburg and Pretoria, OR Tambo airport and Sandton. The
project is to design, finance, construct and operate 80km of new
railway including the provision of rolling stock and
feeder/distribution buses. Murray & Roberts is involved as a sponsor
and shareholder in the Bombela Concession Company, the Turnkey
contractor, the Civil joint venture (Murray & Roberts Construction)
and the Operations company. The Gautrain Rapid Rail Link is expected
to revolutionise public transport in the Gauteng region. |
